On my Laptop, a sony vaoi cr-23g. This web is also know as a Ricoh R5U870 Webcam.
The webcam driver is supported here for Linux.

There are excellent instructions there, for building the driver, I have built a Debian package against the current unstable kernel '2.6.31-1-amd64' version.
Uploading it here, for anyone interested.
Will keep this updated as I keep updating my kernel.
Please bear in mind that this requires loading of binary firmware, so its not pure GPL'd code.
